Perfect end to 2006

After nearly two months of gruelling training for Jess and his PL Soldiers, the hard work has finally paid off. Jess was put up against Ross "The Boss" Mason for the race to be number one contender for the Cage Rage British Welterweight belt currently being held by rising star Paul "Semtex" Daley.

After an unfortunate 2005, Jess went back to the drawing board and turned round his fortune for 2006. Defeating Paul Jenkins and Lee Doski respectively, Jess was went undefeated in this year which is coming to a close. Only one more person stood in his way get to the fight he's been looking for. The fight for the belt. But did this man who stood in his way have enough to stop The Joker? Quite a few critics had their money on Ross Mason, with his devestating punches, to KO Jess. But they forget that Jess is also a world class kickboxer.

Jess walked into the ring very confidently and looking more pumped up than usual. After the doors of the cage slammed shut all of Jess's hard work was hanging on the outcome of this fight. Jess wasn't shy in showing that he too had very good striking ability when he delivered a couple of high kicks, which were blocked by Ross. But it was a message that was to say that this wasn't going to be an easy fight. Ross came in very fast and threw a very strong hook, but that was what Jess was hoping for as he cleanly ducked underneath the punch and did a textbook double leg takedown. Jess then patiently stacked Ross up against the cage and was reigning down with a bit of Groun and Pound. Ross managed to get up again but immediately Jess was on him and jumped guard with guillotine attempt. Ross defended well against it and pulled his head out. There Jess kept Ross tightly in his guard and was setting up for a submission. Ross saw it coming and managed to scramble out of it and managed to get back up on his feet, kicking Jess in the legs while he lay on his back. After a brief mistake by Ross while throwing an axe kick when the ref shouted 'open guard', Jess managed to quickly setup a knee bar which rolled out into a heel hook. Ross quickly defended against the submission attempt, but Jess knew exactly what had to be done. Throwing some strong punches to Ross's face, he quickly forgot about the submission attempt and decided to defend against Jess's strikes, and as he was distracted Jess quickly locked on the heel hook and Ross had no choice but to tap out on 2:55 of the first round.

This concluded an excellent year for Jess and comes as great news to his academy as he is setting up his very own gym in Bethnal Green which will be opening on the 2nd of January. All classes held in previous venues will cease as the new gym will be a fulltime fighters gym.

Going back to last month, Wesley Felix defeated a very respected Dave Swann via triangle choke on the 3rd round of his battle at ZT Fight Night 4. That very same month he had to defend his belt at UKMMAC against Kojak, a rising star from Gracie Barra. As usual for Wesley's style, his warrior's heart refuses to submit to anybody and was able to withstand two triangle choke attempts during the first round, but then on the 3rd, a rear naked choke was put in and Wesley passed out after refusing to tap. This loss won't effect Wesley and we are all looking forward to seeing him bounce back as we know he's going to make some waves in his weight devision.

On the same card, two Pancrase London soldiers made their debuts. Radu Tudorache defeated Adam Ordakowski with a rear naked choke in the first round, and unfortunately Anthony Okorie lost via TKO Neil Groves.

The PL crew have achieved alot this year and we're hoping to make 2007 a much better one, not only for our academy but for MMA aswell.

Remember the new PL gym is opening January 2nd where all classes will be transfered to. Keep an eye out on the website to see our new revised timetable and pricing schemes. Everyone here at Pancrase London wishes you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year .
